Hello! It’s been three weeks since my last update, so I wanted to let you know what I’ve been writing about over at Inconspicuous Consumption. For starters, I’ve come across the wooden bird shown above, which is absolutely one of the greatest examples of brilliantly simple design I’ve ever seen. Additional info here. (For what it’s worth, Phil really liked this one!)
Other recent Inconspicuous Consumption entries have included the following:
- A deep dive on book spine design.
- A childhood story about looking up dirty words in the dictionary.
- Some thoughts about awnings.
- An extremely inconspicuous home-improvement project.
- A deep dive on a vintage Gulf gas station jacket and the old catalog in which it was once featured.
- Inconspicuous Consumption’s first T-shirt.
- A guest entry by Uni Watch’s own Mike Chamernik, about the eternal question of whether to use or preserve vintage items.
- A Brooklyn storefront that appears to have invented a new letter of the alphabet.
- Some thoughts on the pleasures of vintage parking meters, including one that I recently acquired.
You can see all of these posts, and more, on the IC home page.
Incidentally, if you click on any of those links, you’ll see that Inconspicuous Consumption now has its own custom domain name — inconspicuous.info. More on that here.
I was also recently interviewed on a travel podcast regarding my recent post about what does and doesn’t qualify as truly “being in” a U.S. state. You can listen to that here.
meanderings and minutiae of a man who mind melds with the miniscule and mundane
+1. Anyone who enjoyed Paul’s previous non-uni content on this site would dig Inconspicuous Consumption.
I wonder if Paul saw Technology Connection’s (YouTube Channel) video on awning that he published just a couple of weeks ago?
That video got me noticing awnings these days. It’s actually pretty interesting, as all of his videos are.

The bird appears to be a child’s toy with the head piece doubling as a spinning top.
To actually here Paul speak is already special, I think. I love the wooden bird and will probably spell IC as much as I do with UW.
Really don’t miss this guy at all lol
I’m waiting for the Tugboat Captain’s tell all
This is about the fifth or sixth post since the farewell tour 90:days ago. I think someone needs attention…or money.
