Texas A&M Football Unveils New Black Jersey for 2024 Season

The Texas A&M Aggies have re-introduced a black jersey, which they will add to their rotation for the 2024 season. The team previously had BFBS jerseys in 2012 (that was actually a full BFBS uniform), and 2015 (which, again, was a full BFBS uni). Both of those uniforms featured beveled numbers, and the 2012 version also included more maroon than the 2015 edition, was mostly black and white with some hints of maroon.

This jersey likely includes a set of pants, as we’ll see in a minute.

Here’s the hype video:

Here’s a still photo of the jersey

Unlike the two prior iterations, this jersey features no beveled numbers. The front of the jersey shows a large “TEXAS A&M” wordmark, rendered in white, and white block numbers that have perforations. TV numbers are on the shoulder caps, and there are the SEC logo and maker’s mark on the chest. These both seem to have a metallic silver finish. It’s difficult to see in that photo, but the numbers have a thin silver outline.

The team also posted one additional set of graphics on Social Media, which is a “composite” shot of the jersey, but each of the individual photos (there are four) show closer details.

In the first of those images, we see what looks like a pair of black pants with a maroon stripe.

The second slide gives an up close look at the numbers, the perforations, and you can see the silver outline more clearly.

The third slide shows a closeup of the SEC logo and makers mark. Here’s the treatment given to the SEC patch:

Each of the four slides contains three hi-def images of different parts of the new jersey — the “details” as they say.

This will be the first time A&M have worn anything besides a maroon or white jersey since 2015. There has been no announcement when this will be worn (but hopefully it will either be a night game, or late in the season, as an all-black uniform will no doubt be hot in the College Station sun).

__________

I’d like to see a bit more of this (especially if it will be worn with black pants and a black helmet), but this jersey looks to simply be a black version of their current maroon top (albeit with the perforations on the numbers).

Apparently BFBS is still all the rage in college, so this is simply joining the party — and clearly the recruits and players like it. I think the team has a very good look now, with the maroon and white options, but this wasn’t created for me. If the kids like it, then let them have some fun with it.

Your thoughts?

Plain Rags for the Aggies. Aggie Rags? Raggies?
At least now we know the school name stands for Texas Anthracite & Maroon

For those who think I put LSU in the Top Five of the 5&1 too much, there’s a guaranteed week off for you.

Not fooling with the uniform colors was one of the few things I appreciated about Jimbo. Ditch the weird number font and go back to the uniforms from the Bucky/Coryatt era, please.

Coming from an Aggie fan, I hate these jerseys!! For the love of all things good and holy, just wear white and maroon!!

Speaking as a Texas A&M graduate, I didn’t like it a decade ago and I don’t like it now. Black is not an official school color, nor is it a standard trim color. (This is why a black uniform for the Carolina Hurricanes is an acceptable option, but not for the Detroit Red Wings.)

In general. I don’t like tuning in to a game and having to deduce which team is which, because I can’t tell at a glance from their uniforms.

Why don’t college, and pro, teams just cut through all of the malarky and just go to a solid black and solid white uniform? That is what these athletes want and it will cut down on uniform costs.

I have been saying that here for two years in a row. This is what the players demand or they will transfer to a school that does all white and/or all black uniforms. That maroon stripe on the pants is such a distraction. School colors? Every school wants to wear black or white or both.

Yeah.. this one should be a one-and-done. Makes zero sense to pair black with burgundy, maroon, crimson, or any other dark shade of color in the first place. It rarely looks good. That’s my issue with TCU, Hawaii, Oregon, UK and several others at times, because there’s no contrast and it’s rough for TV.

But then they top it off with a practice jersey looking thing?! A&M is embarrassing themselves with that effort.

Black and maroon are horrible together because they don’t complement each other. A maroon stripe on a black pair of pants is about as useless as you can get.

Sorry, late to the party but that doesn’t look like pants to me. Looks like a pullover.
