Jacksonville Jaguars Unveil New White Alternate Helmet

After unveiling new throwback uniforms last week, the Jaguars this morning have announced they are adding a white helmet to their uniform stable.

Naturally, the announcement came with the obligatory hype video.

Because this is an “alternate” helmet, the team can wear it with any other alternate uniform (classic/throwback, Color Rush or third jersey). The team has chosen to wear this white shell with their black jerseys — which are now their “third” jerseys.

The team also announced they will wear the helmets in Week 10 against the Minnesota Vikings.

The helmet has a matte white shell and is the first white helmet in Jaguars history. The helmet will be outfitted with a black face mask.

Head equipment manager George Pellicer talked about the new lids: “One of the best parts of my job here at the Jaguars is mixing up uniform color combinations to see what looks cool. For this helmet, and to honor our 30th season here in Jacksonville, we wanted to pay homage to our diverse fan base, unifying the power of sports, our location and a vital component of our community: the military.”

I’m not quite sure how a white helmet pays homage to any of those things, but whatever.

Pellicer continued, “My favorite element is that it is something completely different than anything we have ever worn. The Jacksonville Jaguars have always worn some form of black helmets so, this will be a creative twist that we have not done yet. Plus, it will be fun to see the fan’s reactions.”

Here are a couple more views.

The Jaguars seem to be hopping on the relatively new alternate white helmet bandwagon in the NFL: In just the past couple seasons, we’ve seen the Bengals, Broncos, Browns, Vikings and Packers all introduce alternate white hats.

_________

I’ll definitely need to see this one on the field (and particularly which pants the Jags pair the helmets with), but as a helmet, I like it. I’m not sure it’s going to work with the black jersey — I generally don’t like any helmets other than black ones paired with black jerseys — but I’ll wait and see how they look in action.

As I mentioned the other day with the Packers white helmet confirmation, many of us were excited when the NFL lifted the one-shell rule. That permitted awesome throwbacks like the Seahawks silver-helmeted beauties, and the return of Pat Patriot and Bucco Bruce. But it also seemingly opened a Pandora’s box, because alternate shells aren’t limited to throwbacks. The phrase “Be careful what you wish for” has never seemed so apt.

Your thoughts?

I like the look of the helmet. The pic is with the black jersey (and I’m just waiting for the crappy white/black/teal, white/black/black and/or white/teal/teal combos that are probably coming), but white/teal/white will look good I think. With the lack of stripes, all white will look odd I think.

While the NFL has been playing pretty fast and loose with its rules, I’m pretty sure they can’t pair this helmet with the teal jersey (or the white one for that matter). The Jags have a throwback uniform and a third jersey (black) as their alternate uniforms. Unless and until the NFL allows alt helmets with primary unis, these will only be worn with the black jerseys.

I’m just praying they pair it with white pants. W/B/B or W/B/T(eal) will look terrible.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I was thinking. I really dislike just about all mono-color uniforms…but the only thing I hate worse than a mono-color uni is pairing a mono-color uni with a white helmet. It just looks horrible to me and/or like someone packed the wrong gear for a road trip, and they had to get by with what was on hand. You see that look a lot more in college than the pros, but it looks just as awful.

So yeah, white pants would be essential with this lid.

Yeah, my first thought on White over Black is “college.” White pants will go a long way, but this seems less necessary than the Packers having a white helmet. (Which, to be clear, is completely unnecessary.)

The only redeeming quality of this helmet is that it won’t be part of another whiteout uni.

W/B/W, W/B/B…I don’t care. Unlike Phil, I enjoy the Bills in W/B/B, and the Wisconsin Badgers in W/R/R.

That being said, I’d like to propose a tweak to this helmet: add a wide black stripe in the middle…which extends all the way to bottom of the helmet on both sides.

After the great Throwbacks, I don’t understand forcing a white helemt with the black jersey. Redesign should have the classic jerseys with the black helemt with the metalic green flakes. Then you can add some standalone white jersey like the Vikings if you want a white helemt. But it’s all starting to feel too much like college. Broncos have the same unnecessary white helmet, so none of these feel original.

They shouldn’t wear the teal flake helmet with the throwbacks as they were never paired with that uniform.

Also, if they made a new white jersey they would have to get rid of their black jersey and with how much fans there love the black jerseys they won’t be doing that.

it’s all starting to feel too much like college
College *and* the NFL both feel too much like, “Remember that underfunded youth football league where I first started playing the game? That’s what I want to dress like.”

I like the helmet by itself but not with the jersey lol. Didn’t need this tbh. People going white for the sake of white.

Exactly. Helmet works great for me. All together (while it’s a clean look) it falls short, and thus simply feels unnecessary. Also feels a bit too Miami dolphins considering they share a state and a vibe, and have similar color schemes to begin with.

Browns, Bengals, Cowboys, Vikings, Packers, Broncos, Jets, Patriots, Buccaneers, Titans. Are those all of the white alternate helmets?

Yawn…….. the excitement about yet another team adding a white helmet is a 1 on a scale of 1-10.

I feel like manufacturers have pre-written verbiage to explain why a particular part of a uniform is designed the way it is. It sounds like ol’ George Pellicer reached into the pile and pulled out the wrong card to explain the new lids.

“I generally don’t like any helmets other than black ones paired with black jerseys — but I’ll wait and see how they look in action.”
You don’t like the Raiders silver helmet when they wear black jerseys? Also the Saints gold helmet with their black jerseys? Well I don’t like the Saints when they wear their black jerseys, but that’s because they usually wear black pants with this combo. When they wear black jersey, gold pants, and gold helmet, it looks great.

I probably should have qualified that a bit — if the helmets match the pants — then I’m OK with a non-black helmet paired with a black jersey. And at least one exception to that rule is the Falcons throwbacks. I’m fine with the red hat/black jersey/white pants. But that’s the exception to the rule. But pretty much ANY white helmet over any mono (or even dark/dark pants & jersey option) I don’t particularly like. Love the Saints in gold/black/gold, love the Raiders in silver/black/gray, love the Bills in white/blue/white. But if the Saints go mono-black with the gold hat, or the Bills go white/blue/blue, then I’m not a fan. The Bills can mitigate this somewhat if they wear white socks with the white/blue/blue…but they’ll often go white/blue/blue/blue and that looks like crap to me.

    YMMV and all that.

Agreed! It’s almost starting to feel forced at this point. If they wanted to do a metallic teal helmet, I would be all over that. But everyone going to these white helmets is just lazy. Green Bay with a green helmet? Vikings with a yellow helmet? Broncos with an orange helmet? Browns with a brown helmet? There are a lot more options than everyone just throwing a white helmet out there. I’m good with the white helmets, if it is a throwback. And, I can live with the Bengals white helmets with the “white tiger” story.

It’s just so minor league/college. I was looking at the Broncos new uniforms the other day thinking, these actually aren’t as bad as I originally thought…except for that stupid white helmet that makes them look like Illinois or Auburn.

We need to stop lumping the Browns in with all these other teams. The Browns had a white helmet during their inception and wore it for several years. Their current white helmet is a modern take on that, but basically it’s a throwback, not a WFWS helmet. And as a lifelong Browns fans who was fascinated by those long-ago white helmets as a kid, I’m thrilled that after waiting for decades (the Browns 1994 NFL 75th anniversary unis should have had a white helmet), I finally get to see them on the field.

I get that. But, I’d love to see them break out a brown helmet when they are able to have 3 lids in 2025.

It’s going to get confusing; flipping on a NFL game and not being able to decipher immediately which teams are playing because of all these alternative helmets.

It’s already happening in the NBA with all the alternate uniforms/teams not wearing white at home and the alternate court designs.

It’s going to get confusing; flipping on a NFL game and not being able to decipher immediately which teams are playing because of all these WHITE alternative helmets.

“I generally don’t like any helmets other than black ones paired with black jerseys”

I don’t know about this, there are some classic looks – Falcons going red over black and metallic lids for Saints/Raiders come to mind!

Way to go, NFL, for continuing to solve the longtime shortage of white helmets in the NFL.

Didn’t really need this at all, since Jags already had one of the cooler looking helmets in the NFL. Feels forced and doesn’t fit with any of their uni options. If anything, reintroduce the silver proto helmet or some variation of it.

Another boring white helmet and worn with a black jersey looks even worse. Why not a teal helemt? The Jags used a Gold/Black 2 tone helmet a few years ago and the gold part looked good. A solid metallic gold would be way more unique and colorful than the un original common white. Common people wake up. The white helmets are getting as common as black pants.

A teal helmet with a chrome finish would definitely be something new in the NFL!!!!!!!!

Big disappointment. Gold, especially chrome gold, would have been the way to go for Jags. Teal and gold complement each other incredibly well. If not gold, a teal helmet makes sense. I feel like we need to add a new term to the lexicon, WHFWHS.

I’m usually a fan of white helmets, but this is totally unnecessary. The Cardinals all white uniform is their best look, but they look bad when they add red pants with their red jersey. and the Colts look great home or away if they stick with white pants. But these teams who have no history of white helmets adding white helmets, really is becoming WFWS, and needs to stop.

The Cards would do better using a sand colored helmet instead of that BFBS atrocity.

“The Cardinals all white uniform is their best look…”
    YES!
There’s few teams left that would look ok-to-all-right in white helmets (Eagles for starters, and the Texans pre-dumpster fire)…the Jags aren’t on the oh-so-short list.

All I can think of is the Archer episode where they were talking about a $40 million dollar painting that was just layer after layer of white on top of white until you can see nothing else.

Unnecessary move until one takes into account the preference for all white or all black uniforms with players and therefore a growing number of fans. College players (lack of) taste bleeding into the NFL. No surprise if this is the first step into an all white uniform for the Jaguars. Players just love that: it accentuates the muscles and makes you look bigger, stronger and more intimidating. Like all black gives you the brooding, menacing, ninja style no fun in this world I will take you down look. Utterly boring. Leave all black to the New Zealand All Blacks, leave all white to Real Madrid and Leeds United.

Few people know this, but that ridiculous teal tongue is a nod to the Jacksonville Zoo’s tradition of feeding Jasper the Jaguar blue snow cones on hot days!
    (not)

With white pants, it could work. But it’s pretty wild that we have gone from BFBS to WFWS.

    And of course this gem…

“we wanted to pay homage to our diverse fan base, unifying the power of sports, our location and a vital component of our community: the military.”

Ah yes. Heaven forbid an NFL team forget to kowtow to the military in a uniform announcement.

I’m not a big fan of teal, but the league needs a teal helmet. This is the team.

Hardest possible sigh. And they even threw in a player yelling his head off to exhibit it.

Sports are now bull$#!+. Writings on the wall.

Since they’re honoring the white Jacksonville population with a white helmet, maybe the Rams and Chargers should create brown helmets to honor the large Latino (Latinx?) community here in Los Angeles.

I wish the Rams would fauxback to the ’64-’72 unis, but with dishwater instead of white.
    Including the horns.

If any team needs a white helmet, it’s a team in Florida. Not sure why they’re waiting until week 10 to wear it, instead of the early part of the season when the sun is strongest.

Anyone else tired of white helmets? As a kid in the 80s, as a generalization, I used to see the white-helmeted teams as soft (Dolphins, Patriots, Colts, Cardinals, even the Oilers), regardless of how they actually looked as part of the uniform.

Wish you could wear each helmet with whatever you wanted. Also would be cool if the Jags also added a gold lid to the rotation next year.

They should probably only wear these along with all white uniforms when it snows in Jacksonville. A real whiteout game.

Teal helmets would go crazy. Surely Coastal Carolina got a few sitting around for the Jaguars

The team that needs to wear a white helmet is Philly. It’s historic, would look awesome and the city deserves a whiteout. It’s past time to ditch the black unis and helmet, and modernize the Midnight Blue set, specially the font.

If white/blue/white works for the bills, don’t see why white/black/white won’t work for the jaguars. I have a feeling it’s gonna look pretty sharp!

These matte helmets are a bummer. Especially white . Looks too bland like chalk. To me it seems like pros should be shining

“For this helmet, and to honor our 30th season here in Jacksonville, we wanted to pay homage to our diverse fan base, unifying the power of sports, our location and a vital component of our community: the military.”

No equipment manager in the history of equipment managers talks like this. Pure bullshit from one of Shahid Khan’s marketing wizards. Hopefully one who isn’t stealing millions from the organization to feed his gambling addiction.

I get that so many changes can be frustrating for fans, but I am so tired of the argument that we’ll never be able to tell what teams are playing when we turn on the tv. When any of the red and blue baseball teams play each other, how do any of these plaintiffs figure out who’s doing what and what’s going on when? I mean both teams use the same color scheme and apparently there’s no other way to figure out what you’re looking at.

White helmets with black jerseys Is a fail! They could ask the league if they could pair them with the white jerseys just like the Bengals did that would look so much better!

I like the helmet but I’m trying to picture a Jags combo that would work with this and I’m coming up short.

Getting tired of this white bandwagon. The black helmet has always been the Jaguars’ identity so a white helmet just doesn’t look right.

Figured this would be the case with the helmet laws being lifted. Frankly I’d rather see WFWS than BFBS because white is naturally a color for every team, but something just feels off with these and the uni they are paired with.

I also think it’s important to distinguish (which it is, but still) that some like the Browns whites are throwbacks, or throwback inspired like the Cowboys, while most are just “ehh, let’s see if this looks cool.”

When the Chiefs, Steelers or Raiders do it, then we’re in real trouble.

The instinct to copy someone else’s idea, hook line and sinker, is something I will never understand. To be the fifth or sixth organisation to do so in a row, is beyond belief. Corporate groupthink has taken over.

That gold and teal combo has so much potential, but it’s like they’re determined not to do anything with it.

These look like someone missed a deadline.

At this point you have to wonder what is happening with our football in America, and not just from a uniform standpoint. We have college football that is trying to become the NFL in many ways and now the NFL is now apparently trying to become college football in uniform design.

This is all so confusing at this point. lol

At any rate, this Jaguars attempt is meh to me, but this is coming from the two-tone helmet organization so.. I’ve seen certainly seen worse things from Jacksonville.
