Apparently Still Smarting Over Two Super Bowl Losses, Brady Signs Manning Jersey “F**K OFF”

Fanatics recently posted a video of NFL Quarterback Legends Tom Brady and Eli Manning signing jerseys. Then something interesting happens when Brady is given a “MANNING” No. 10 jersey to sign.

To paraphrase an old-time New York sports reporter, Warner Wolf, let’s go to the video(tape)…

If you watch that video all the way though, it’s pretty apparent that Brady’s message was more good natured than anything else, but still…

Eli responded to Brady’s message with a simple “Good Game.”

If you aren’t aware of the “history” between the two, Brady’s Patriots lost two Super Bowls to Manning’s Giants, including Super Bowl 42, in which the Patriots were trying to play a perfect, undefeated season (and going 19-0). They finished the regular sesaon undefeated (16-0), then won two playoff games, to enter SB XLII at 18-0. The heavily underdog Giants pulled off one of the greatest victories in history when they upset the Patriots and not only squashed their Super Bowl dreams, but also their quest to tie the Miami Dolphins as the only undefeated and untied Super Bowl winners.

18 Wins. One Giant Loss.

Apparently TB12 will never forget.

What is the point of Brady signing a E. Manning Giants jersey?

“Good natured” or whatever, this is kind of either:
    1. Poor taste.
    2. A juvenile attempt to be funny and/or edgy.

I find it ironic that he didn’t put the jersey on top, instead of in the stack somewhere.

I’m sure that people will disagree with me, and that is OK, it’s just my view.

I don’t know the context (nor does the Fanatics tweet give any)

But from the video, it appears Brady is signing a stack of his own TB jerseys, when someone(?) stuck/snuck in a Manning one. Notice how he seems to be happily signing his own but notices the Manning jersey immediately and pauses, looks up, then writes his little message. It was probably all set up, but you never know.

Fanatics has a series of videos of them slipping in various items in the autograph stack to see if players will sign them. They have one of Christian McCaffery signing a bunch of Stanford Hats, then slipping a USC one in. IIRC he wrote his stats from the last game he played against USC. Some guys don’t like to have fun and don’t do anything

Fanatics has done videos like this before, where they put something unusual in the middle of a rapid fire signing session and see if they’ll sign it or not. Like a USC guy signing a UCLA hat or just something dumb like a piece of fruit.

I brought a guitar years ago to get my favorite band at the time The Supersuckers to sign. Heathman, Thunder Bolton, Eddie Spaghetti all doodled their names. Somehow Dancing Eagle, the drummer was handed the guitar and he scribbles ALL GUITAR PLAYERS SUCK in huge letters across the top. I still have the guitar. Years later he had no memory of doing that..

This is good stuff. Would love to see what he would do with a Foles jersey. I think Brady respects Eli and can laugh this off. From what I can tell he is still bitter about losing to Foles.

I love this, and I love the intensity from Tom Brady.
I also love Phil’s quotes “The heavily underdog Giants pulled off one of the greatest victories in history” and “18 Wins. One Giant Loss.”
    Read it and weep, beauty!
Phil, your quotes could be even more legendary being read out loud by the voice of the NFL Films narrator. Ssss.

    (doing best Steve Sabol)…

“The game was played on February 3, 2008, at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Despite New England being heavily favored heading into the game, the Giants defeated the Patriots by the score of 17–14. The game is regarded as one of the biggest upsets in the history of professional North American sports, as well as one of the greatest Super Bowl games ever.”

    Confirmed by wiki: link

Steve Sabol was the creator of NFL Films, I was thinking of the narrator from the (Raiders) NFL films? “A Raider is a…..” “weather beaten faces”. Gosh can’t remember his name.

“The Autumn Wind” narrated by John Facenda, that’s the voice, written by former NFL Films President and co-founder Steve Sabol.

    SMDH!

Yes, of course. That’s who I was thinking of…Not sure why I said Sabol (other than the fact he produced those NFL Films). But I should have well remembered that wasn’t his voiceover.

“The Autumn Wind” itself is based, nearly word for word, off of a poem by Mary Jane Carr titled “A Pirate Wind” written in 1941.

Here on this Wikipedia article, you can see a side by side comparison of the two works.

I absolutely cannot believe that this is a thing.

Apparently no one understands the concept of two great friends busting balls.

Apparently anyone who makes anything of this never had a good friend who he could bust balls with.

    Sheesh!

The whole thing was probably staged, so I don’t disagree.

Still, even if they’re busting balls, I thought it was a funny uni-related video (and a chance to take a tiny dig at Pats fans was just a bonus).

    Re: Fanatics does this
Generally, I think this is rude to ask people to sign other people’s jerseys, but looks like what he wrote was just fun, and, really, would make a great gift for someone. I hope Fanatics pays him extra for doing that.

    Typo: “F**K OFF”

Looks like he actually wrote “FUCK OFF” but the letters are blurred on the video. If you look closely when the camera zooms in, you can make out the U and the C.

It’s largely a PR gag. Fanatics does this stuff. Especially this to promote their gigantic FanaticsFest event in NYC in a few weeks. I like that they’re having fun with it.
