MLB Father’s Day Caps Appear to Leak on Retail Site

Posted in:

Major League Baseball hasn’t yet officially released this year’s Father’s Day caps, but three teams’ caps appeared last night on the retail site Hatland.com, providing a good sense of how the holiday caps will look throughout the league.

Unlike the Ma’s Day caps, which were all grey-ish khaki, it appears that the Pa’s Day headwear will feature the teams’ standard cap colors — or at least that’s the case for the the Dodgers, the Yankees, and Atlanta, which are the three designs that appeared last night on Hatland.com:

In short: Looks stupid, but less stupid than most of the other holiday caps.

Father’s Day is on June 18 — less than a month away — so the official release for all 30 teams will presumably take place very soon.

This leak is a nice appetizer for today’s main course: the unveiling of the Orioles’ CC uniform, which is slated to take place this morning. I’ll write something about that and get it published as soon as I’m able.

(My thanks to Twitter-er @MDaily51741943 for bringing the Hatland.com listings to my attention.)

Membership Update

Membership card designer Scott M.X. Turner has been busy at work on the annual batch of Purple Amnesty Day cards (including Tyler Haney’s, shown at right, which is based on West Chester University’s baseball jerseys). We hope to have all of the purple orders designed and sent to the printer later this week.

Ordering a membership card is a good way to support Uni Watch, and fun to boot. And remember, a Uni Watch membership card entitles you to a 15% discount on any of the merchandise in the Uni Watch, Uni Rock, and Naming Wrongs shops. (If you’re an existing member and would like to have the discount code, email me and I’ll hook you up.)

As always, you can sign up for your own custom-designed card here, you can see all the cards we’ve designed so far here (now more than 3,300 of them!), and you can see how we produce the cards here.

Can of the Day

That is one happy fella — he must really like peanut butter!

What Paul Did Over the Weekend

I was lucky enough to be invited to two parties over the weekend — one on Saturday and one on Sunday.

The Saturday party was a small gathering hosted by my friends Nate and Heather. Heather is a TV writer and is currently part of the WGA strike, so she had lots of really interesting stories to tell about picketing and such. There was also tons of great food, none of which I photographed because I was distracted by two completely adorable kittens that Nate and Heather are currently fostering. Meet Mittens and Stripes (and yes, that’s Mary in one of the photos — she was at the party and we’re still friends):

When the kittens were busy in another part of the house, I turned my attention to Nate and Heather’s friendly wiener dog, Murray:

So that was Saturday. Then on Sunday, my friends Mac and Adrianna (Mac is the artist who built that double play machine a few years back) hosted a Maryland-style crabfest, which was a total blast:

This was a big, festive shindig — met a lot of interesting people, yakked with some kids, and, of course, ate a lot of crabs. Crustacean carnage! It wasn’t a hot day (temps were in the low 70s), but it felt like the beginning of summer, at least for me.

The Father’s Day caps will be far better than the garbage teams wore over the weekend.

Braves Father’s Day cap reminds me of an Angels cap back when they had light blue in their color scheme.

The light blue outline of these caps is something I actually like, even if it is not part of the team colors. It may look washed out at first sight, but the longer I stare at it the more I like it. Almost like powder blue uniforms which I really like.
