A Uni Watch Reader’s Mono-Purple Memories

[This post is part of Uni Watch’s 2023 Purple Amnesty Day content. For additional background and details, look here.]

Longtime Uni Watch reader Robert Eden recently sent along these photos of himself. I’ll let him explain:

The photos show the purple-over-purple uniforms worn by my American Legion team in Holdrege, Neb., in the early 1980s.  I found them cool at the time but do not recall whether my teammates ever expressed an opinion about them.

One downside was that they faded fairly quickly. The result was that players who wore the same jersey for three or four years of Legion ball ended up with very faded jerseys, while new jerseys were very dark. The problem was exacerbated when the level of fade between the jersey and pants differed markedly.

For my last season, I changed uniform numbers primarily because I wanted a non-faded jersey.

Love it. Also love those ribbon stirrups! Thanks for sharing, Robert.

Great stuff, Robert! I really appreciate you sharing this with us! Now if only you could find a photo of the jersey/pants mismatch once the color fading kicked in…

Puma Rockets came in purple? I always had to dye the light gray into my team color

I really like a striping pattern for cuffs, collars, tube socks and pants that has a yellow-white-other color-white-yellow pattern. Great uniform, even if it faded too fast.

These Holdrege uniforms were amazing. So unique. I loved wearing the all purple.
