Jocks? Check! Frocks? Sigh … check.

oakland

Oakland (Mich.) knocked off No. 23 Oregon on Saturday night, which in itself isn’t a huge deal. Nebraska beat Oregon last weekend, and Nebraska is not so good.

It was, however, interesting that Oregon, which gets the “best” Nike has to offer in other sports, is not a System of Dress team. Oakland, somehow, is. Whatever gets you through the night, I guess.

And with that, I’m out for a few days. Travel safe if you’re hitting the road or the skies. See you in a few days. And be nice to Paul while I’m gone. — Bryan

I am surprised that Carolina doned their powder blue uniforms. I expected them to wear white to force the Cowboys to have go with their “unlucky” blue uniforms. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

One of the more unique Seinfeld episodes. My all-time favorite being the wedding in India with the entire episode running in reverse

As an Oakland University grad, I can say with pride that the NOB beneath the number is the stupidest thing ever.

One player for the Manitoba Moose of the AHL has a slightly different NOB style than his teammates. Most look like link, but No. 18 looks like link.

Bryan will take on Paul in the Feats of Strength later on…

Meantime, if you happen to watch Brain Boitano’s skating spectacular at the Your Telephone Company Name Here Park on NBC later today (I just saw a glimpse on style today), look for four male skaters weaing Giants replica uniforms – with NOBs and non-trimmed pants going ankle length sans stirrups – as well as a bad drag attempt.

I just noticed Dany Heatley is now wearing what appears to be an Easton helmet [link] I didn’t even know Easton had plans to manufacture one.

Also, Brad Boyes’ Mission gloves do not match his uniform very well. [link]

I’m surprised Oakland doesn’t have a mix-and-match system of dress. For a big game like that, I would expected the white shirts/gold shorts or the Wizard-equse gold shirts/black short combo.

That is rather minimalist for Oakland.

I’m sure this has been addressed, but I noticed the other day on the Uni-ticket mentioning Clarence Weather’s helmet, his full first name of “link” was on his jersey. Interesting, but not unique.

I remember Stephret Williams of the Cowboys having his complete first name on the jersey, are there many others?

Maybe they themed their uni’s around the practice jerseys they had to wear for that one game last year.

Another indication that the Vikings weren’t completely on-board with the all-purple look of the Bears game: this, from the St. Paul Pioneer-Press:

    link

Before the Chicago Bears game last week, Vikings players were asked whether they approved of the team’s new all-purple pants and jersey “grape” look. Linebacker Ben Leber was among those who raised his hand in disapproval.

“We won, but I still don’t care for it,” he said.

Lakers wearing gold throwbacks today at the Knicks while most of us are watching the NFL.

Packers’ Woodson is all green while Harris is all white in this week’s ‘Lower Leg Shananigans’ installment.

amad bradshaw for the Giants is missing the “n” from his ny logo on his helmet at about the 10 minute mark in the third.

I’m watching the Browns-Bengals game and just noticed Jamal Lewis has something in the ear holes of his helmet. I’m guessing its something to help counteract the wind blowing threw his helmet as there are strong winds in Cincy today.

Does anyone out there know why Adrian Peterson always has a dark looking substance on his jersey? I don’t see any of the other vikings with this substance…any ideas what it might be?

Naw, Its been missing since at least the 3rd quarter when I noticed it. Sorry, no pic. Also, it looks like some of the Bills had the big red side stripe cut down. If someone can get a pic of Edwards jersey vs. Lynch’s jersey. Lynch’s actually looked really good (never thought i would say that) because it was the same size as the red stripe on his pants. Maybe something they should all consider but i assume its a fit issue.

More Giants helmets mishaps – the ‘4’ in the ones column on the front of Bradshaw’s helmet is missing, and the ‘2’ on the front of Michael Strahan’s is upside down and stuck in the nose bumper, so it looks kind of like a ‘5.’

Just sent Paul a pic of Ahmad Bradshaw’s helmet decal mishap. Brian Urlacher was missing a chunk of his helmet decal today. You can see it after he scores his touchdown. Any help?

Is it just me, or does Mr Jones from Oakland have something written underneath his jersey on the back? It may just be a shadow.

Also, there must be some sort of NCAA rule that the uniform has to fit somewhere ‘remotely’ near to the waist. Mr Jones’ waist band isn’t actually touching his body when he jumps.

[In 1999, the link hired] Jerry Glanville, whose eccentric personality gave the Falcons another piece of identity. Coinciding with Glanville’s hiring and his “Man in black” image, the Falcons altered their uniforms from their traditional red jersey/red helmet uniform to an all-black motif which would remain in place until 2003.

That picture doesn’t really capture how bad the OU jerseys are. Because of the name being under the number, the numbers are about the size of a normal team’s front numbers, and they appear to be between the players’ shoulder blades.

    Regarding Adrian Peterson’s jersey gunk.

It’s been on there for a while so I think it’s glue that came of the packaging and it gathed various junk quite quickly. This happened with my authentic Adelious(sp??) Thomas jersey. A small bit of glue is on the back number 6 and it picked up a lot of crap but it’s so small it’s barely noticeable. I might post a pic later.

    Just a guess.

This isn’t uni-related…but it has come very close to hitting someone due to a malfunction during a seahawks game it almost hit hasselbeck…and ended up being moved off the field and hung (for a while) very low over the teams bench. Of course, all the players decided to give it plenty of space…

System of Dress is like the Oregon diamond plate football unis: they look at least decent on players with a typical athletic body (QB’s, receivers, point guards) but downright autrocious on anyone with bulk.

As for the Peterson gunk, as an ex-equiment guy, I think there is a good chance that it is from the balls. When a football is fairly new, the leather can stain. You can see that his jersey is taped to his pads and is VERY tight…so I would guess as he runs with the ball over the white twill on his numbers, the leather is staining the twill.

Haven’t seen it mentioned yet, but Adrian Peterson was one of several Bears who’s wishbone “C” helmet decal ripped… Or broke… Or whatever that would be called… There was a good shot of it right after he ran for his TD at the end of the 2nd half when he was on the sideline, if anybody is bored enough to get a screen-grab of it
