INDIANS YANKEES

Swarms of Canadian Soldiers invaded Jacobs Field last night bringing the insect invasion to almost Biblical proportions for about two innings near the end of the game. You could see pitchers and players and umps being doused in bug spray (which supposedly does nothing to repel the little bugs, and actually attracts them more than anything else because of the wetness). Asked about the midges, Casey Blake responded, “What do you mean what did they look like? They were like small pterodactyls.”

The tiny gnat-like bugs usually hang out over Lake Erie, but with the unseasonably warm weather last night they migrated a few blocks inward to the ballpark. No word yet on if the Tribe are going to bring them to NY just to screw with Joba Chamberlain’s head. —Vince

I missed the game last night – were the Yankees particularly bothered by the bugs because of their lighter-colored uniforms attracting ’em, or was the unpleasantness pretty universal?

I knew most of the Red Sox wore baggy uniforms, but I think they have all gone up a size or two for the playoffs. What a bunch of Rag-Bags (Army expression).

They seemed to be attracted to Joba Chamberlain specifically. :(

Speaking of which, has anyone else noticed that Joba and Babe Ruth look like the same person?

link of A-Rod spraying in a weird place. Are we noticing a little trope with him here?

I think the real story of the night was Fausto Carmona’s jersey tag sticking out all game. No photo unfortunately, but if you were watching, I think Bob Brenly said something in the sixth about it being out since at least the second inning.

Anybody see Fausto Carmona’s tag sticking out of his neckline last night? Can’t find a good pic of it.

if you want to know the truth, Vince can atest to this. you need to get dried off to stop them. there isn’t as much water in the outfield grass, so they weren’t bugged as much. but with the watering of the dirt and sweat, there weere all over there. it’s ok. Yahoo sports is compairing it to the bibal and god becoming a Tribe fan. all I can say is AWESOME!!!!

Did anyone notice the guy sitting behind the Yankees dugout that seemingly switched caps every inning? He was in the picture during close-ups of left-handed batters. I counted at least 6 different colored caps from this guy including hot pink, yellow, green, dark blue, royal blue, and red. Maybe more because I may have missed some because i was watching some Reebok…I mean NHL games.

He’s been a fixture since Jacobs Field opened in the mid 90’s. I guess it’s superstition, but dont think any local “journalist” has sought him out to find out his routine.

I can attest to this. Dampness and water attracts them. That’s why they were all over Joba’s neck. The bug spray just made it worse. They acknowledged this on the broadcast, and it’s true, they would have been better off bringing out towels to dry off then adding more liquid to the situation.

Agreed. It is disappointing to me that a franchise that is otherwise so traditional kowtows to the slob element and permits them to take the field in those ill-fitting uniforms.

Sure looks like it. He also appears to be have way too much fun for being hitless in a series where his team is about to be eliminated (again).

Multiple funky helmets in the Illinois Wisconsin game including the ION. Not sure as to the model 47 is wearing. Here is a pic from the Penn St. game that shows a few,

The arod pictures would be funny in a “looks like theyre kids playing” sorta way if his team wasnt down 2-0 and he wasnt a useless in the playoffs regular season mvp.

Also just noticed that #9 for Illinois appears to have “Team” on the bumper of his helment. They were showing a close up during the review

i noticed the hat-switcher too, and wondered if i was the only one. the first hat i noticed was a neon green and i figured that when they changed, the network guys were having fun, that the color resembled the green-screen that they use to change the ads behind home plate on, and were fooling around.

Well apparently someone in Indiana must have read my complaints on the Chris Creamer boards because last they wore white on crimson last @ Iowa, this week they’re in crimson and white vs Minnesota

Also, how gross was it to watch Manny’s snood get stuck in his hair during the post-homer celebration?

Speaking of weird guys sitting behind home plate, anyone else catch that guy in Game 1 of the Cubs-Backs series with the flashing Cubs sign?

He got the sign taken away for good, too.

sorry, this is a link (mayfly) and from what i could tell they were not what was flying around. this is a link. at least they weren’t muffleheads.

Auburn, playing at home against Vanderbilt, is wearing its usual road white jerseys and pants, but it is wearing plain white helments with gray face masks. Vanderbilt looks tacky in gold jerseys and solid black pants.

The Auburn unis are supposed to honor the 1957 team which was named national champion in that year’s AP poll. The design of the jerseys and pants hasn’t changed since then, but I’m sure the ’57 team didn’t have that “Auburn” wordmark or names on the backs.

Watching the KU-K-State game and I have two observations:

    a) The KU number font doesn’t look as bad as I thought. Though it’s still kind of goofy and could benefit from a little kerning.

    b) The K-State unis look good, although the NCAA pennant looks gi-norm-ous. Scale it down or get rid of it. (KU doesn’t have it.)

What in the hell is the coach from Wisconsin thinking right now?? It’s 85 degrees and they are playing on turf and the guy is wearing a jacket zipped all the way up to his chin. Is he trying to get ready for a wrestling match or is it just habit?

Agreed. It is disappointing to me that a franchise that is otherwise so traditional kowtows to the slob element and permits them to take the field in those ill-fitting uniforms.

How are the Red Sox “so traditional”? This is a team that wears alternate red jerseys on occasion, has multiple mascots at the park and in the 1970s went the same route so many other teams did with pullover jerseys and elastic pants.

Those are valid points. How about this: The Red Sox like to hold themselves out as a storied and traditional franchise, yet [insert insult directed at sloppy players here].

All Blacks wearing silver again in the Rugby World Cup quarterfinals against a dark blue French team.

Any Uni-Watch fans on X-Box Live? I’m curious as to how many fellow gamers are on this blog. I bet All Pro Football 2K8 would be a great hit to this crew due to its incredible uniform maker.

I know what you’re probably wondering, so let me address that right here: No, the models will not be permitted to wear purple lingerie.

Any truth to the rumor that you’re only allowing sites that have naked pictures of Anna Kournikova or Lindsey Davenport to advertise? Will the wireless-friendly ones be marked with a green dot>

There is a really good article on the NHL jerseys on CBS if you scroll all the way down you can vote on the “16 best jerseys.” You can also see an overview of each of the jerseys.

In addition, models will NOT be wearing white at home during hockey season, will sport the weird Buccaneers font ONLY during practice, and may come with a bit of Nike logo creep, especially if she is wearing an orange sorts bra. No word on whether or not it rips too easily in a fight. </sarcasm>

Colt McCoy’s rear ‘2’ is coming off at the bottom. It’s right on the ridge of his lumbar pad, so its easy to catch an edge with it. Not quite flapping, but definitely loose.

Why oh why do they have 2 of the best sweaters going against each other in rd one (Montreal and Columbus)?

It’s Paul’s worst nightmare down in Clemson. They’re rocking the all purple unitards. I agree with people who say that you should form your own opinions about what you think about certain uniforms, whether Paul likes it or not but Clemson looks horrendous. Bright orange helmets and a purple unitard is not a good combination. It looks like they got dressed in the dark. One more thing, Clemson just kicked a field goal and the kicker doesn’t have a chin strap and the announcers scolded him for not wearing it

Has anyone noticed the Boston Celtics uniform that they wore for their game in Rome? It appears the “Bo” are green with a white outline; the “st” in white with a white outline, and the “on” in Orange with a white outline.

Chicago had not worn blue all season. I seem to recall Paul saying something to the effect that the blue was officially phased out back in April.

looks like they’re sporting some new dugout jackets for the rockies-phillies game tonight – are these a preview of what all the teams will wear next year?

how sweet is this photo? the late afternoon autumn sun creates a classic look even for the d-back’s road unis.

Cold front coming through Denver – temp is supposed to drop into the high 30s tonight with a 30 mph wind, so both teams are getting out the heavier dugout jackets, and most of the Rockies are wearing the warmer grey-body compression shirts under the vests.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Jimenez’s backward stirrups and Moyer’s Nike polka-dot sleeve Nike undershirt in the Rockies-Phillies game.

Or then again, this just might be the usual uniwatch fodder.

Isn’t it ironic how the team with the worst unis have a pitcher with the best socks (on the field)?

I don’t know why the NBA would change such a recognized brand as the Boston Celtics for an exhibition game in an overseas market. Maybe it was the Celtics idea, their way of giving a very subtle nod to the country that is graciously hosting them? Maybe they did it just to throw all of the Uni Watchers for a loop? Maybe they really like the Scuderia Ferrari?
