From what I hear, there was a pretty big horse race yesterday. I’m surprised Chad Johnson didn’t try to sign the horse’s hide after winning. —Vince

he’s a big as the horse… i would love to see a piture of him next to a jockey.

It looks like Barry Zito’s link is wearing the old 5950, which is strange since I don’t think he’s ever worn the old cap with them.

Pat Venditte, the Creighton pitcher who has earned national acclaim for throwing both right-handed and left-handed, was drafted by the Yankees in the 45th round yesterday – but he might not sign with the club.

Venditte had been projected to go anywhere from the 10th to 20th rounds, but he said he told scouts that he planned to return to Creighton for his senior season.

Venditte said the Yankees called him around the 30th round and asked how much money it would take to sign him.

“It would be more than I would have gotten,” he said. “I never even set a price.”

He said he didn’t expect a second call from the Yankees.

“I guess they’re taking a chance that they can sign me this summer,” he said.

I hope not. They need to quit that right now.

Don’t know if anyone has addressed this but it really annoys me that the Cavs have not worn their red jerseys once in the last two postseasons… especially considering it is their regular (and superior) road uni and the blue is the alternate.

If we’re thinking of the same bobblehead, Zito is also wearing his pants pajama-style. That NEVER happens!!! Someone’s not paying enough attention to detail.

    P. S. What a pretty horse!!!

I was just browsing pictures on viewimage dot com and came across Nery Castillo of Mexico sporting some crazy tats… check em out

the Pirates may be wearing grey jerseys, but players who aren’t wearing 3/4 length sleeves, including Chacon, are without that cool left shoulder patch.

I don’t get it, why don’t they just make the 3/4 sleeve shirts with the logo on it too?

Is it too much trouble for Chacon to bend the brim on his hat a little??? Geeze….

Those jerseys are usually worn at Friday night home games. I’d be very surprised if they ever appeared on the road.

one of the mlb.com main page profile has dice K and Randy Johnson…check out Randy’s jersey and the two “a’s” that are showing. looks like complete crap!

Not uni-related but seagulls are all over the outfield at Comerica Park today. It’s like an Alfred Hitchcock movie out there.

Checking out the Rays/Marlins game earlier and most of the Marlins players’ eye black has smeared to the point that it can’t be very effective. They look like they’ve been crying after a bad date.

They purposely do it that way. A couple of weeks ago they were playing the Mets and Miguel Cabrera came out in the first inning with his eye-black applied like that.

Why they do it that way is another story.

Every time someone other than David Wright or Paul LoDuca comes up to bat, I hear the theme from Psycho, because the rest of the Mets’ hitters are killing rallies left and right..

PS- I think the horse with ocho cinco has its mane and tail are dyed. And, just to throw this in, I had the winner and the exacta yesterday! Girl Power!

Oregon State’s baseball uni’s need to be burned. Road grey with pinnys with an massive orange number on the lower right and all white lettering “OSU” and on the back the number takes up the entire uniform. Someone help with photos please. Others need to gouge their eyes out.

Don’t ask me why, but I just flipped on the LPGA golf tourament, and Paula Creamer was just using a pink ball. It matched her all pink outfit….

Yeah, as Mr. Met mentioned, they did that a few weeks ago against the Mets too.

Here’s a great pic of him against the Cubs 2 weeks ago:

Maybe it started out like that, but by the fifth, some of them looked like they had been madeup by beauth-school dropouts who failed cosmotology 101 and didn’t even attempt a makeup exam.

I have never seen this before. They had a sale at Lambeau Field today with old jackets, and players shoes, and stuff like that. What was really strange is that at one table they were selling the name plates off of old jerseys.

I’m glad someone mentioned that. I just turned the game on and did a double-take. It looks doubly ridiculous next to Michigan’s superb uniforms.

Been watching a lot of the College Baseball Super Regionals and I have to say Arizona State has some superb unis. They look seriously old school, down to the numbers on the back.

I have tix for that game, the gametime is 605p, gates open at 405p. I plan on getting there @ 4p and will be major league honked off if they’re gone. first 20,000 fans. Of course, if Z keeps losing, they may have a lot left over.

Mmhmm, and when the race was over, was Johnson talking about how proud he was to have raised money for charity, or even WHICH charity it was? No. He was link about how he wants to fight Floyd Mayweather, go one-on-one with Kobe, race Jeff Gordon, etc. I stand by it. Horse’s ass.

Couldn’t get a pic of it, but the ump for my team’s softball game had ASA (American Softball Assoc.) socks. Pretty lame socks as a whole.

check out that link…. i dont know if anyone can make it out…this pic. was taken after a highway collapsed in Iraq… check out the kid on the car… is that an A-ROD jersey?

Not really uni related but just watching the starting lineups for the NBA Finals and nothing really compares to the Jordan Bulls introductions. The Cavs had better intro music with the Undertaker theme than the home Spurs. Still though nothing comes close to watching the Bulls be introduced because you never knew what you might see in the game when they were over.

While searching for pics of those hideous OSU away jerseys I stumbled across this collection.

Oh, didn’t know that. Quite fitting then.

What is it with all this politically correct crap? Oooooh, Chad Johnson is racing against a horse for charity, so now someone’s moral compass gets all out of whack because of a funny comment about Chad? How is that an affront to the charity? Gimme a break.

It’s like the discussion last week about ugly uniforms. Someone made a mention about the Navy football unis being ugly, and all of a sudden there’s one person who whines about how wrong it is to comment negatively on their uniforms because they’re out there fighting in a war. What the hell does one have to do with the other?

This is a sports-related website. People are going to make fun of uniforms and sports personalities. If that bothers you, then you are on the wrong website.

You know what else I notice in that OSU photo…too many straight bills on the hats.

You know what? Those uniforms could have been really good if the OSU wordmark were, I don’t know, black outlined with orange?
On a totally unrelated note, I hate abbreviations like that. I shouldn’t have to decipher a team name. LSU, FSU, and PSU get a pass because no other state other than Louisiana starts with ‘L,’ Florida ‘F,’ and Pennsylvania ‘P.’

OMG! I guess I didn’t believe it until I saw it. Those could possibly be the worst Uni’s I have every seen. What in the world is up with the HUGE numbers, and the white “OSU”? This is a travesty. Especially at the College DI level. That is just my 2 cents though.

Felix Pie is now wearing number 20 for the cubs after wearing 17 when he was called up earlier in the season.

I thought it was Oklahoma State University when I first saw them on the tv….

I heard a statistic on ESPN: Albert Pujols has a higher home run total on Sunday games than games on the other six days combined. You know what my first thought was? Maybe his lucky hat is a Sunday alternate (the navy redbird on bat hat with the red brim). My dad was speechless. I hereby declare myself a Uni Watcher.

You know, I could stand one tweak on tradition with the Oregon State uniforms. If the OSU matched everything else, then the ubernumbers wouldn’t be awful, just non-traditional. And though I don’t know why you’d want a white OSU, if the other elements matched it, it would just be weird instead of garish.

OTOH, the UCLA unis are nice, even with the little 3-stripe thing at the back of the neck.

Even though the glowing OSU is a little odd looking, there were two things that I noticed in the picture that I thought were interesting.

    1. The brown field turf serving as a warning track in front of the Beavers’ dugout.

    and

    2. The Michigan catcher’s helmet. Even though its a lame hockey mask…at least they do it up in the Michigan football style.

very bad indeed, but certainly not the link.

What about the Whichita St baseball helmets? Did anyone catch that game on ESPN? The helmets are a horrid 2-color mix, with what looks like one stencil glued over the yellow helmet.

Can somebody back me up that the Phillies and Yankees are the only 2 MLB teams with no alternate 3rd jerseys?

Cardinals don’t…but they do have the Sunday hat at least. Dodgers and Giants don’t any more, but a few years ago each had solid jerseys as well. The Tigers have no alternate jersey either. So it is those six teams (NYY, PHI, STL, LAL, SF and DET) that have no alternate jersey. Only the Cardinals and Phillies ever wear an alternate hat among those (Cards on Sundays and Phils in interleague).

The Cubs technically still have a blue alternate, but (apparently due to the team president’s preference), I don’t think they’ve worn it all season.

I could really dig those OSU jerseys if they moved the great-looking massive number over to the other side, and then made an interlocking “OSU” logo over the heart, in the same orange as the number.

And Jaye, great use of the word “clown” as a verb; this needs to become standard! “I really got clowned by the fans back when I played football at Oregon State.” “How about if the Mets really clown up the team and wear the black-and-blue hats, white jerseys, and gray pants?”
