Amare Stoudemire is one of several players who’ll be wearing new sneaker designs in today’s NBA All-Star Game. Others include Kobe Bryant and Chauncey Billups.

Morning…. Today’s sneakers are horrible. Too much science to them. Give me some Chucks. The best sneakers have come and gone in the 80s and 90s. I loved the mid 90s Jason Kidds and Jordans. Pippen had the cool AIR shoes. What are your favorite basketball shoes?

There’s tons of others wearing ASG specific shoes tonight. But did anyone see Shaq’s shoe last night. I’m sure this was mentioned last night in the comments section, i didnt look. Anyways, two years ago shaq had the phone shoe, not sure about last year, but this year he busted out the slot machine shoe for vegas. it was pretty funny.

Also something i noticed last night, the returning champs in every event, wore white. The link team in the Shooting Stars Comp; link in the Skills Comp; link in the 3-Point Shootout; and link in the Dunk Contest.

Again, sorry if any of this was mentioned in yesterday’s comments section.

Ah! Great catch! That would explain my post from yesterday expressing my annoyance at the fact that Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry wwere both Mavericks wearing different unis in the same event.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but it looks like we’re not the only ones who have a problem with MLB’s BP jerseys. Some of the Braves players feel likewise:

    link

Best unis in the land for those Washington disasters??? Those look like something a JV high school should be wearing.

And thats only the second Red Auerbach Headband seen this year that I know of, and the first one in Green. Not seen since Paul Pierce’s Opening Night white.

You might just have to be flogged for saying that the Wiz alternatives are good. I quite literally think they’re the worst unis in Sports. (Well, of the American Big 4 anyways.)

And furthermore, I’m a fan of the Mavs Alternatives. I mean, in general, I think alternatives suck. But they’re some of the better alternatives out there.

did anyone see the arizona/ucla game yesterday… blue vs. red, i tell ya it was pretty hard on the ol’ eyes

Watching my boys win at the buzzer was pretty awesome last night but I wandered if all the one sleeve victims have padding on the shoulder like link for the Golden Eagles. Go Cards… Welcome back to Big Time Basketball….

I know this is being extremely picky (but hey, we’re UniWatch readers) but most are calling it a Dee Brown vintage/retro jersey. In fact, it’s just the celtics current jersey with “Brown” on the nameplate instead of “Jefferson”.

Also, I’ve been noticing that for the most part this Spring Training the Red Sox have been wearing their red BP caps instead of the blues.

    link

Few notes: Gerald Greens tear away jersey was neat, wouldve been better if he ripped it off while dunking.

The players from same teams wearing different uniforms as well as same conferences wearing home away or alts was kinda annoying.

The best sneaker of alltime is the link, my favorite to play in ever is the link

I don’t understand why everyone hates those unis so bad. I think the contrast with tan and black looks great. Great font on “Wizards” Good number size and font. The stars of the color of the other piece bring the two pieces together. The shine of the jersey looks great.

What specifically about them is so repulsive? No one in real life would wear the same color shirt and pants but when they do in sports its fine. And I agree. But in real life, if you wore tan with black it would look great, and I think the same holds on the court.

At least these hats don’t have that prominent stretchy ear thing like the other hats. If it’s there, it’s not noticable.

It’s there, but hardly noticable. Which is why I believe the Sox are wearing them over the blue caps.

Illinois is wearing orange agaisnt Northwestern’s purple.

Check comment 71 yesterday. Navy in white. Army in grey. At least orange and purple are distinguishable.

Looking at that picture of Amare, just another reason adidas needs to drop their annoying tendency of plastering their logo and stripes on everything – you don’t mix sportswear brands, and the ASG is going to prove to be a mishmash of this with everyone wearing adidas jerseys with the stripes and logo, and different brand shoes. And are those shorts made out of rubber or something?

If I remember correctly, Army’s colors are black, gold, and gray. [Ought we rational folks be lathered up about this?]

whats the problem with color on color. its great for teams to not have to wear a white uni if they dont want. id feel real bad for you guys if you came to europe. when inter plays milan, inter is black and blue, milan is red and black. away team wears white shorts and socks, away team wears their normal black. thats the difference. its a beautiful sight. even better when inter wins.

Corey Maggette wore a tearaway jersey when he competed in the dunk contest a few years ago, but he never used it in a dunk. He had something planned but never went through with it. Would have been cool to see, though.

I don’t know if anyone else noticed or mentioned this, but while watching the Celebrity All-Star Game (because I’m a sucker for that kind of thing), I noticed that the team logos on the East and West jerseys were really, really glittery.

Anyone have pics of this? I think those were the same jerseys they’ll be using tonight, so be forewarned.

I remember Josh Smith put on a Wilkins throwback for his final dunk two years ago, but I’m pretty sure he went through the process of removing his own jersey and putting on the other.

this is probably a major Uni-No-No but in 7th grade i wore the Nike shoes that had a zip up cover…anyone remember them? it wasnt a fully detachable cover just something stitched on around the bottom and then the shoes were tied and then zipped over.

Something like link only the zipper went the full normal tongue length and there were real laces underneath. also not the toddler size obviously

Did anyone happen to see the second intermission report on NBC’s coverage of the Pittsburgh-Washington game? Clement, Hull and Chicken Parm were discussing which teams need to make a deal as the trade deadline approaches, and the first two teams discussed were Anaheim and Buffalo. The sad thing is, while the discussion went on, NBC chose to use the OLD logos for the Mighty Ducks and the Sabres. Weak effort NBC. It’s February 18, get some new logos please!

maybe they were sparing us of the lack of a ducks logo and the travesty of the buffaslug?

Best basketball sneaks (for me:) 1972-era Adidas “ABA Americana” sneakers. White with red and blue. Awesome.

The red cap is the home cap, and the blue cap is the away cap. They wouldn’t wear the away cap while training at their home facility.

The coolest of all basketball shoes: the blue Pro Keds high tops worn by, most famously, the Kings Nate Archibald in the early ’70’s.

Where to find a pair of those today?

To follow up on the yellow NHL shoe lace thread the other day, let me add Dallas Stars’ Jere Lehtinen to the list. Also, at the game today, I noticed that SJ Shark Kyle McLaren was wearing a yellow tinted visor. (Sorry if this has been noted before).

    link

Did anyone see the goalkeeper for Chelsea on Saturday in their victory against Norwich? He was wearing a Water Polo style headgear type thing. I don’t have any photos yet, I’m still looking. But this is what it kind of looked like. Can anyone help me out why a soccer goalie would need that type of headgear?

    Water polo

Petr Cech was likely wearing a rugby scrum cap because he suffered a fractured skull earlier in the season.

Also, I noticed the graphics mishap on NBC. They also called the Crosby-Ovechkin matchup 87 vs. 9, when Ovechkin is 8. And later on in the game they displayed a graphic showing Crosby, Malkin and Staal’s stats for the game. Crosby was 87, Malkin was 71 and Staal for some reason they had as 9 instead of 11.

    Go NBC…

I guess adidas thought it was a better idea to put their super-redundant three stripes on the sleeves of the All Star warm up jackets, instead of link.

interesting, the past all star game patches that were supposed to be on the players warm up jacket sleeves arent there, instead there is the adidas stripes which i usually like, but seem a bit much on there

If you’re my age, they’re probably the old Jason Kidd shoes… I had those, they had the zip-up “skin” over the internal shoe. Damn I loved those things…

In other news, today’s Tottenham-Fulham FA Cup game had some interesting uniform bits. Spurs wore their awesome link. In addition, the referee and Spurs keeper Paul Robinson were both dressed in yellow, something that is never supposed to happen.

I was surprised by that too, but I like the track jacket look and I like the color schemes. Especially the West so it’s ok.

I noticed the NBA and Adidas logos were right next to each other in equal stature on the jackets. Just interesting symbolically.

I think people see it as problematic simply because they are not used to seeing basketball jerseys like that. It’s happened, but not often enough for me to remember a specific instance. I can’t remember a link wearing white “shorts,” with or without a white jersey. link will very seldom go color on color like the NBA, and it gets mentioned here every time it happens. So, there’s no reason they’re repulsive other than that they are strange looking for basketball. That, and the color scheme makes it a bit garish.

This is hockey’s reality. They are relegated to almost no coverage as it is, and when it happens, it’s bush league. Bettman and the owners made a mistake sticking with Versus… they need some real exposure to climb back into things.

Goalies slamming their head into posts is not that rare, so there’s one reason. Also, a ball to the head at 30 meters per second could do some damage, especially with pre-existing concussions.

This is why I thought for a long time that the players in the all-star game weren’t assigned their usual numbers: the West has two #21s!

This might only relate to punk fans but does anyone else think that in that picture, Robbie Keane looks exactly like Joey Cape from Lagwagon:

I don’t really mind the repeat numbers, and I would rather that than random numbers, but that is another case for them wearing their normal unis instead of special asg ones.

link Iversons have a zip up top with laces underneath. They look pretty good and a friend I know has them and they look nice in action, too.

Ugh! At first I really liked the new BP uniforms and hats for the MLB this season… but after seeing my Brewers in their new digs… I have certainly changed my mind.

    Rickie Weeks

NBC’s coverage of the NHL game today was nationally televised. To nationally televise that the guys in the truck know nothing about hockey is probably why the NHL doesn’t like having the NBC as a major carrier in the States.

That, and the fact that Versus guaranteed a ton of marketing for the NHL whereas the NHL on NBC guarantees none.

The most entertaining event of the All-Star Weekend was the Dick Bavetta v. Charles Barkley race…the NBA is Fantastic…Where have you gone MJ, Magic, Julius and Bird???

    I Hate This Game.

Looks like he’s playing for the company softball team.

[quote comment=”56549I can’t remember a link wearing white “shorts,” with or without a white jersey.

a few teams have worn white shorts.
they were popular with nhl teams up until the 1930’s and the washington capitals wore white shorts in the 1970’s. a few years ago when team canada introduced their new uniforms, there was talk of having white shorts for games with the white jerseys (and red for the red jerseys)

I’ve been out of it for a while, but did anyone notice the link that allows pitchers to wear multi-colored gloves if the umpire doesn’t find it distracting?

Did anyone notice that the pregame intros for the ASG tonight had each player messing with a ball? In about half of them, there was the regular ball, and the other half had the ball that went out the window at the new year. Sorry, no pics, but I laughed

My friend said that there was a new rule and his high school had to get new uniforms. He didn’t know much, just that there were too many colors in their uniforms and they have to switch their helmet from silver to blue. This wouldn’t affect my school because our uniforms are all black (with yellow Broncos stripes), but I’ve not heard this rule before. This is in Illinois if anyone knows the rules.

In this old Nike commercial, the goalie taxi driver is wearing number 29 Canadians jersey, which is retired for Ken Dryden.
No wonder he is a cabbie.

I don’t know that anyone has said that it is a problem, except in cases like Saturday’s Army/Navy game when the two uni’s were almost identical.

“Goalies slamming their head into posts is not that rare, so there’s one reason. Also, a ball to the head at 30 meters per second could do some damage, especially with pre-existing concussions.”

In October, the keeper in question, Petr Cech, got kneed in the head in a collision with another player. He dove to intercept a ball in the penalty area, but the other guy couldn’t stop himself and charged right through his face. It was scary.

I’m not sure why you decided to just guess when you easily find out what happened through Google.
