Ask and Ye Shall Receive … a Jpeg

20061023_DAL_Terry_Glenn07 copy.jpg

Question: How great are Uni Watch readers? Answer: Pretty damn great. Last week I put out the call for screen-grabs of Charlie Bell’s Wednesday-night wardrobe malfunction, and reader H. Beezy came through with several excellent shots. As you may recall, when posting those pics on Friday, I lamented that we still didn’t have a shot of Terry Glenn’s Ohio State buckeye helmet decal from the October 23rd Cowboys/Giants game. I was particularly interested in that incident because I hadn’t seen the game myself — I only knew about Glenn’s decal because several dozen readers had e-mailed me about it.

As it turns out, there’s an inside Cowboys source who’s a Uni Watch reader. I didn’t realize this until the person in question, who prefers to remain anonymous, e-mailed this photo to me on Friday afternoon (here’s a larger version, and a huge version), with Glenn’s buckeye decal clearly evident in all its contraband glory. I don’t know if Glenn was fined for this, but he hasn’t worn the buckeye in subsequent games.

Take a close look, incidentally, and you can see the Dymo Tape name label on the back of Glenn’s helmet, a Cowboys visual signature that dates all the way back to the 1960s. Look for further details on that classically inconspicuous detail — with help from our new friend in Dallas — in an upcoming blog segment.

Research Request: If you have TiVo or some other DVR, will be home on Tuesday night, and are willing to help out on a research project, please get in touch. Thanks. … Update, 1:20pm: Okay, I’ve got enough volunteers now. Thanks to all who’ve checked in to offer their services.

Uni Watch News Ticker: MLB still hasn’t unveiled its new batting practice jersey template. But last week I passed along news from an inside Mets source who said the new design was similar to what was used during the home run derby, with a two-button collar and “a thick black ‘stripe’ from the armpit down, like NFL jerseys. … Judging by the sneak peek available here, that information was, unfortunately, accurate. … The New York City Marathon was yesterday, and the New York Times ran this graphic to help identify the top runners. Nice enough — until you take a closer look and see the utterly gratuitous logo creep. Pfeh. … Baseball historian and archivist David Eskenazi, who specializes in photos from the Pacific northwest (I showcased some pics from his amazing collection a few months back), got in touch the other day. “The long-defunct Vernon Tigers of the Pacific Coast League had some nifty uniforms in the late teens and early 1920s,” he writes. “I’ve attached some scans, just for fun.” … Good interview here with uniform designer and longtime Uni Watch supporter Todd Radom. … Friday’s post regarding retired uniform numbers for people who never wore a uniform drew lots of good response in the Comments section. In addition to the examples I cited (if you missed them, look here), there are the Seahawks, who’ve retired No. 12 for their fans, the “12th man” (which, as Vincent Vincenzo points out, prompted a lawsuit from Texas A&M); the Pistons (No. 2, for Chuck Daly’s two championships); the Indians (No. 455, the number of consecutive sellouts at Jacobs Field); the Nuggets (No. 432, the number of victories compiled by former coach Doug Moe); the Pacers (No. 529, the number of victories coached by Slick Leonard); and the Suns (No. 832, the number of victories coached by Cotton Fitzsimmons). In addition, Marquette has retired No. 11 for the Apollo 11 crew, No. 38 for the 38 years of service by team trainer Robert Weingart, and No. 77 for former coach Al McGuire’s 1977 championship. Thanks to all who contributed, and no thanks to the teams who came up with these utterly pointless retired numbers. … Some interesting tidbits about football uniforms, along with lots of info you already knew, here (with thanks to Sean Janssen for the link). … Lacrosse rant from Al Stone, who writes: “As an outdoor lacrosse player, my pet peeve is the disparity between the pure outdoor game’s goalies and the bastardized indoor game’s refrigerators with sticks. Honestly, what do you think takes more skill — this or this? I might be alone on this, but I think it’s nuts to call both styles ‘lacrosse goalies.’ ” … Eric Stangel has spotted two interesting pieces of game-used memorabilia: The first is a Mariano Rivera cap, whose underbill is inscribed with “Dios te bendiga” (“God blesses you”). The other is a bat that Andruw Jones used to address the ball — literally. (Full details on that one are available in this discussion thread.) … Minnesota-Duluth’s hockey team celebrated the 40th anniversary of their arena on Saturday by wearing 1966 throwback unis, which featured some pretty sensational sock striping (thanks to Justin Dols and Karl Anderson). … More volleyball tourney observations from Jeremy Brahm: Germany has umlauts and a wristwatch, plus a player whose surname begins with “Ss”; the Dominicans use the same uni number font as the Anaheim Angels; what can brown do for your collar?; Chinese Taipei’s nameplate format is surname followed by initials; interesting mix of upper- and lowercase lettering on Japan’s nameplates; surprisingly ornate uni number typography for the American team; and more religiously modest garb for the Egyptian women. … Josh Huffines notes that the minor league Seattle Thunderbirds’ alternate jersey is pretty rad, plus it features one of the rare jersey logo characters that’s depicted neither head-on nor in profile. … Shannon Briggs wore some seriously awful trunks on Saturday night. … War on Purple battle report from Jonathan Carone, whose school, Liberty, played purple-clad Western Carolina on Saturday: ” I made a sign that said, ‘You Wear Purple’ and got our mascot to walk around the field with it. He was messing with the WCU trainers and even went up to the fans and showed them the sign and everything. It was pretty entertaining.” … In case you missed it in yesterday’s Comments section: Cedric Benson had some decal issues during yesterday’s Bears/Dolphins game (with thanks to Clint Fransen for the screen shot). … Douglas Adams notes that the “c” in Chris McAlister’s nameplate looks like this, while teammate Steve McNair’s nameplate looks like this. … From last night’s Comments section: Shield your eyes.

The Cowboys Dymo tape usage is most intriguing. A franchise that is so well wealthy still uses something as low-tech and tacky looking as Dymo tape? I like it.

New college basketball uni. The University of Arkansas @ Little Rock changed their unis. They now have UALR on the front instead of Arkansas Little Rock. A good view of the new and old are here

The retirment of numbers not worn by players is bad enough, but when it is a number that would never conceivably be worn by a player, the whole thing just gets silly. I want to see a Suns player ask for number 832, be told that he cannot have it because it is retired, and then settle for 831 instead.

So indoor lacrosee goalies have more pads and a smaller goal? Weenies.

Besides, I played goalie in high school, and the (many, many) bruises were a badge of honor.

More vidence that we are link. This is from the Ontario University Assosication Semi-Final. The worst part is the monochromatic purple team here won the Canadian national championship last year wearing that uni combo….

The Buffalo Bulls have new uniforms for the College basketball season. I’m still trying to find a pic. They are very similar to the uniforms of the past, but they have changed the striping and piping on it. On the Jersey they added black piping and changed the Font on “Buffalo”… the shorts have the weird nike stripes that end up going across the butt of the shorts

Illinois has changed their unis. I particularly like the new shorts (not a fan of the clavicle-stripe trend).

The waistband rocks!

link

Did anyone else notice during the Ohio State – Illinois game that hand-warmers worn around the waists of the Illinois players included stripes that matched their pants? The warmers were navy blue, but the part that sat on their hips had orange piping to match their pants. This is the best photo I could find. Look at the players’ left hip:

I have always wondered what that was, can you read the names in HD? I wonder if one has ever come off. I think the Mets use that Dymo tape label thingy to put the names on the brim of their helmets as well.

The watch is on a German coach, who is a man and the tournament is for the ladies right now. The men will be later in the month, but no player can wear a game according to FIVB rules.

I mentioned that McNair/McAlister thing the first week of the season…from what I can gather the Ravens by default always go with the link (I know it’s a replica, but it’s technicaly accurate), but McNair has a link of the link “C”. My guess is it’s a personal preference that he requested.

And while looking for pictures I found this link. It pains me to see people pushing this crap as authentic (2 DIFFERENT “9’s”), and pains me even more to see people buy them. UGGGHHHH

Is the Liberty mascot pregnant? Or is it just a little water weight? Nice job on the sign, though.

That Thunderbirds jersey is good. Maybe NHL teams ought to look at them to see what a jersey should look like anymore.

Rocks? That waistband looks like the cheap-shit rickrack that our moms used to put on the hem of our dresses back in the 70s.

Ottawa rocks a great uni with neither a “straight-on” nor a true “profile” logo. That pissed off roman centurion makes for one of the best unis in the NHL:

Indiana University had added an American Flag to their jerseys. Note that Oklahoma also had these flags, so it appears to be a Kelvin Sampson thing.

I actually kinda like the purple-and-silver team in that photo. it’s one of the few purple color combos I can accept.

that other team, though. wow, are those horrible. there’s two different shades of purple! a darker purple on the pants, and lighter on the jersey but with the darker purple as a shoulder/side panel… and that piping makes me sick. fully hideous.

aside: football pants with no side striping are simply wrong.

We’re allowed to do a lot, especially if we live off campus like I do. I’ve always said I’m not a fan of Jerry politically or religiously but I love him as my chancellor. To me, it’s 3 seperate people.

As for the fun, we pulled a prank on one of Western’s players this weekend. I made a fake Facebook account as a girl named Kristen Hutchens. To make a long story short, their starting middle linebacker started hitting on her. He thought he was hooking up with her tonight and having some fun. When they came running out from the tunnel there was a huge 15-person sign that spelled out her name and we had other signs for it and stuff.

While I accept that Liberty U. cas impose whatever rules it wishes, with the knowledge that students are free to not go there, you’ve got to figure that the name of the school is a bit deceptive, no?

Please, for the life of me, let’s not turn this into a Liberty debate. Anytime the school gets mentioned it happens and I’m tired of it. I’m a longtime Uni Watch reader and I send Paul things in from all of our games and he just happened to post this one. Next time I’ll just black out the jerseys.

As for comment #30 on the silver and purple school

i went there. go to link and check out the wallpaper that says ARE YOU PURPLE?

I played for a black and red team all through high school and then went on to play rugby at western, we actually moved from the school colours and went with an all black jersey with purple socks and purple numbers, it looked great, but the school took over our design this year and went back to school implemented purple.

(Sorry, Jonathan I will stop talking about the topic now)

Douglas Adams (hopefully not the deceased author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy), is credited as pointing out the McNair-McCallister nameplate inconsistency. Not sure when he let paul know about it, but I posted in last Monday’s comment section (10/31/06) about it and Mike from Queens was able to find some different in-game pictures of it. Also, it seems to happen with both the purple and the white jerseys in the game, not just on signing day.

The Giants also use some sort of tape to ID their batting helmets. They have been doing this for quite some time, as opposed to using numbers like most teams.

I played defense in high school. I also disagree with Paul’s gratuitous logo creep comment. These athletes receive the majority of their paychecks from these shoe companies. We are not upset when they wear/use team logos in the NFL where the team pays the athletes, so why would we be upset here?

Someone mentioned it in Friday’s Comments section. I went to the Suns’ web site to check, but the Suns, unlike most NBA teams the Suns don’t have a separate page on their site devoted to retired numbers (as you noted, they have a “ring of honor” page instead). So then I checked Wikipedia — not the ideal resource, agreed, but linkis what I found there.

The NY Islanders retired number 739 for Al Arbours coaching victories link

The Toronto Maple Leafs have a policy of retiring numbers only for players “who have made a significant contribution to the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club and have experienced a career-ending incident while a member of the Maple Leaf team”
The only numbers retired by the Leafs are #5 Bill Barilko and #6 Ace Bailey.

1993, the Leafs began a policy of “Honoured Numbers” for their greatest stars. This numbers can be worn by other players but are honoured for the players who wore them. Alex Steen, Andrew Raycroft, Ian White, John Pohl and Mike Peca will wear honoured numbers (1, 7, 21 and 27, respectively) in 2006-07.

More teams should honour numbers rather then retired stupid ones like coaching numbers.

a bit of speculation: since the all star bp/home run derby jerseys are set up to feature the colors of the hosting team, maybe the switch to this uniform side panneling is to give the jerseys a consistant feel in the derby jerseys. think about it. the derby jerseys will have an automatic template (look at the picture of the pirates bp jersey to the al home run derby jersey. same except for logos) and then all you have to do for the other league is juxtapose the colors.

Talk about making sure the ‘uniform’ matches…

I guess I’ll have to go by David L now, just to distinguish myself from the other David (Liberty student).

Those two schools from sunday are both from oakland not san francisco, the orange team is McClymonds ala the mack wordmark on their jerseys, the purple team is castlemont. Two of the tougher inner sity schools in oaklnad. and two of the uglier uniforms in the bay. I saw mack on tv a few weeks ago and thought i bet the faithful would hate that

Paul,
Is all logo creep bad? Those NY Marathon runners have been paid a good sum of money by these companies. This money has allowed them to train as athletes on a more full-time basis. In return, the company wants the public to understand that they are associated with this athlete, have provided them money, and quality equipment so that they can pursue their passion. The companies obviously hope is that the public might buy some of their ware. This seems like a good deal all around. And as far as I could see, none of the logo placements were aesthetically poor.

I don’t understand why all this venom is being spewed in Lance’s direction. I swear he wasn’t the only one in the marathon wearing his name, or at least something other than his race number. Look link and link. I mean, if he did something disrespectful or irreverent, that’s one thing, but sheesh.

its not the fact that its his name, its the fact that it is all capital letters that grinds my gears

Frankly, it looks ambiguous as to whether the nubmer has truly been retired or not. But whatever — it’s still ridiculous.
The reason the Suns don’t have retired numbers on their website is that they don’t technically “retire” numbers anymore.
When Tom Chambers’ number was retired they had a problem. Tom Gugliotta was wearing #24, so Jerry Colangelo changed the moniker from “retired number” to “Ring of honor”. All the members are on signs of the upper deck facing at US Ariways Center.
While they don’t officially retire numbers anymore, however, the Suns won’t issue the ring of honor members’ numbers to players.

For instance, Jalen Rose will wear #8, since #5 was worn by Ring of Honor member Dick Van Arsdale.

Having been beaten to the correction punch by Miss Minna herself, I’m gonna go out on a limb here and ask a question.

In the Uni Watch collective knowledge, which is vast and deep like the oceans, what qualifies as “retro”? Does Gordie Howe’s jersey qualify as “retro” if the basic design of the jersey has barely changed? Granted, it is old, but is it retro? I’d say “vintage” more than “retro”.

According to Answers.com, vintage, as an adjective, can be defined as “characterized by excellence, maturity, and enduring appeal; classic.”

Retro, on the other hand, is defined as the following from Wikipedia.com: “Retro, short for retrospective, is a modern term used to describe things from a bygone era. It is often used in a positive sense, referring to quirky or attractive products that are no longer available”.

Is this just semantics? Since people use vintage and retro interchangeably in describing jerseys, should there be a distinction?

All opinions wanted. Apply on this forum. :o)

In the shoe world, vintage applys for actual old products from the past (a pair of Air Jordan 1’s made and sold in 1985) while “retro” is for old styled products sold produced and sold currently (A pair of Air Jordan 1’s made in 2000)

For jerseys, a Champion authentic would be considered Vintage, while a Mitchell & Ness would be considered retro.

Numbers 6 and 7 are nice, but I’d never own one because I’m a vintage guy, not a retro guy. And yes, I can spot “NHL Vinatge” jerseys from a mile away.

Also, I can’t grasp why people spend $100 on a replica jersey and then customize if for an additional $60-100 with pro-style customizing. Save your pennies up, get a real jersey, and then customize it.

I understand people aren’t made of money, but if you’re gonna dump money into customizing, spend it wisely. Nothing irked me more when I worked at a very famous North American hockey retailer. The cost to customize was sometimes more than the replica jersey itself.

I should really write a “how to spot a pro NHL jersey” piece. I know so many people who have received a replica off ebay, claiming it was a “pro jersey”.

First, let me second what Minna said about voting. Contrary to popular belief it is important and also, voting in elections makes you eligible to complain when our officials inevitably screw up again.

As to Teebz’s vintage v. retro question: I would think (and I haven’t consulted a dictionary) that the difference between retro and vintage is whether something is a direct reproduction of a past uniform style (which I would consider vintage) or if it merely harkens back to past designs without actually encompassing all the trappings of the past jersey or uniform (which I would say is retro). If this definition between the two is accepted (and anyone who finds fault with my definition should feel free to attack it) then it is possible that we could be talking about whether a baseball uniform is vintage because it has a beltloop in the front of the pants (like they did back in the 20s, 30s, and 40s) or if it is retro simply because it uses a past design.

I can already actually see where there might be a problem with my reasoning, so feel free to address it.

Yeah, it’s a toss-up, for sure. You could get one of each! One green and one white.

Ok, since Minna asked, and today’s article is titled “Ask and ye shall receive”, here’s a quick intro course to spotting the difference between an NHL replica jersey and an NHL pro jersey. We’ll start with the similarities as CCM made some serious upgrades when they moved from cheap polyester to Air-Knit fabric.

Both jerseys are similar in that they both have:
– CCM-patented Air-Knit 100% polyester double-knit. The fabric is breathable and durable, in other words.
– Interlock neck hem for durability.
– 2-inch wide bottom hem, soon to be killed off by Reebok.

Now, for the differences that are clearly visible when looking at a jersey, they are:
– NHL pro jerseys have a larger logo on the front than replicas do, and it is embroidered directly to the jersey. Replicas are glued on.
link
link
– NHL pro jerseys have a fighting strap sewn into the back of the jersey, near the hemline. Replicas do not.
link
– The NHL replica jerseys have a CCM embroidered logo on the left sleeve near the wrist. The NHL pro jerseys do not.
link
– For newer NHL jerseys, the NHL pro jerseys have a Reebok neck logo as all NHL pro jerseys are made under the Reebok brand name. All NHL replica jerseys have a CCM-brand neck logo as all NHL replica jerseys are made under the CCM brand name.
– NHL pro jerseys have a silver embroidered NHL puck on the back of the jersey on the right-hand side on the hem. NHL replicas have an orange NHL puck.
link
– Authentic jerseys prior to 1996, I believe, have the CCM logo embroidered in the teams’ colours in the spot where the puck is now located. Replicas had the CCM logo screened onto the fabric in the same spot.
– NHL pro jerseys have reinforced stitching on all seams and hems. NHL replica jerseys only have it on armholes and shoulders.
– NHL pro jerseys are sized by chest size (46 through 60 in the NHL by even numbers only). NHL replica jerseys are sized like all other clothes (small through XXL, and occasionally bigger). These can be viewed in the link in the next point.
– NHL pro jersey tags are marked as “on-ice game jersey”. NHL replica jerseys are only marked as “official licensed jersey”.
link
link
– NHL pro jerseys have double elbows and shoulders. NHL replica jerseys do not.
– NHL pro jerseys have underarm gussets. NHL replica jerseys do not.

I think that should do it. If you have any questions, post them here.

IMHO, Replica jerseys are a good jersey choice if:
a) you have a child who is growing and don’t want to spend $200-250 on a pro for him/her; and/or b) you play rec hockey and need a jersey to wear on the ice.

In no way am I bragging, but I only own pro jerseys because they look and feel like a real jersey more so than replicas. I got my learnings from working with them daily, so it’s a personal preference thing.

And honestly, Rudy isn’t that bad of an idea. In fact, it makes me chuckle. Rudy = all-star. I have a Kasparaitis Islanders’ Fisherman jersey. I’ll see if I can get a picture of it and post it up in the next couple of days.

Speaking of North Stars jerseys, you have to love ths subtle shadows (the yellow layer is shifted just slightly off center) that they used to use. Back then it was only the North Stars and the Rangers with shadows.

a. about the marathon and the legible first names. that is done by design. virtually all distance races, (of substantial lengths- marathons or halfs) are scored by a computer microchip on your shoelace, however you are assigned the bib with your first name in large block letters. that is done for racer support. some halfs and marathons dont allow ipods or music, which means all you have is the fans and their suppport to get you through. and let me tell you, they do support you. when i did the runners world half marathon in april, these people yell and scream to push you, make you work and finish. they never have met you, but when you hear a group of 30 people screaming “c’mon todd work hard!!! hills coming up… 7, 6, 5 miles to go…etc. it is an unbelievable motivation and spark for the racer.
i would recommend running a half marathon to everyone… give yourself about 5 months to train…what a sense of accomplishment.

I think Al Stone should try Box Lax (the more popular version in Canada) before talking smack about it.

I played Box Lax as a ‘tender, and it was much harder and tougher than ice hockey ‘tending (which I also do). Believe it or not, these people have amazing accuracy with their shots and the ball has a knack of finding holes in the padding.

And even when it hits the padding, you feel it, I got bruises through the arm and chest protector.

I only had 4 floor times before I was hurt by a shot that dislocated my thumb and stretched some ligaments on my right hand (it’s now set on a slightly different angle than my other thumb, which is pretty cool).

So yes, it’s just as tough as an outdoor lacrosse goalie’s job.

But that 9% know what reallymatters!

I agree with BtotheE; the gloves on each hand of the quarterback is weird. I understand it on the non-throwing hand, like Brady, Vick, and others wear, but I’d think the ball would grip too much when trying to throw a pass. Some announcer made the point that it could be for the reason so the QB would be able to pull the ball back easier after a pump-fake. Xavier Lee of the Seminoles is doing this too and he looks like a WR, not a QB.

You need to get organized!

If Charger fans begain treating the powder blue as their official color (it’s not like anyone wouldn’t know who’s color that is, the ownership would have to follow suit, no? I mean, not have to, but it would make sense and be an incredible show community and team support without having a tacky boycot or walkout.

Egoist or not, I personally believe that if you didn’t wear it in the game, your name shouldn’t be on it outside of the game. Joe Nobody’s name should not be on the back of a jersey that Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg have worn. We’re not in a class anywhere near those guys so we shouldn’t even pretend to be.

Probly the only thing I hate more than this is people who wear a teams jersey at a game the team is not playing in. (ex: Wearing a Red Wings jersey at a Kings / Canucks game) It’s just wrong people, purply uniform wrong.

Also, I would like to pose the question: Why do people only put their names on the back of hockey jerseys?
I can’t recall seeing many people put their names on the back of NBA/NFL/MLB jerseys.

I’m not an expoert…but that I’m pretty sure thats the link in the team colors on the hemline there.

I could be wrong on whether its authentic or not because that jersey comes from the 80’s…and so do i..

You cut me deep, Shrek. You cut me deep.

#155 should have told you that it was more than likely a replica since I couldn’t see a fighting strap. The problem with Joe’s assessment is this, as written in my “how to identify an NHL pro jersey” segment:

– Authentic jerseys prior to 1996, I believe, have the CCM logo embroidered in the teams’ colours in the spot where the puck is now located. Replicas had the CCM logo screened onto the fabric in the same spot.

If that jersey is, in fact, an authentic it would have the CCM logo embroidered onto the bottom hem. However, since it clearly is sporting a vintage collection tag, it’s a replica as I had deduced in Post #155.

My skills of deduction are wasted here. Anyone have a murder I can solve? Somebody get me a Scooby snack.

By the way, Minna, it’s all in good, clean fun that I wrote this. I know you’re poking a little fun. :o)

I also tried to zoom in on the next tag…but the picture is too small to differentiate the replica from the authentic…I actually own a replica Lightning jersey…and my fiance owns an authentic…

Since we hate each others football teams (I’m a fins fan and she is a patsie fan) we decided that we would unite on the hockey front…

It’s strange. I have a fairly high compre—ok, Freddy. Let me ask you this. How much would that jersey cost? I know you’ve done this for me before, but can you place a pic of each type (replica, vintage, retro, etc., doesn’t have to be the North Stars) sidi by side so I can see them at the same time?

My igloo has a good view of the actual North Pole. Depending on how I feel, I may enter the Iditarod this year. I don’t wanna put too many miles on the ol’ dog sled, though. I’m still making payments. :o)

And since I was the one who doctored that Polamalu picture with your “Minna 4 Life” wish, it’s gotta be all about me. ;o)

I’ll grab my camera tomorrow and show you a few NHL pro jerseys from different eras. They’ll be good examples of how they changed.

I was watching the football game tonight, and I noticed that one of the Raiders’ defenders (number 52 I think) had an American flag belt buckle. A good sized one, too. It looked really tacky…

Here’s this years Iowa Basketball jersey . Not a fan of the front piping in the lower part of the jersey.

Teebz, you do the Iditarod? That’s really cool. You do not have an igloo be cause that would be excellent. You part Inuit?

You get me what I want you Christmas, and it will be all about you. For the pic, it’s just a little about you.

Thanks in advance for putting in work with your camera for me. I much appreciate it. If you do the Iditarod, you have to take pics. When is it?

Seriously. An igloo? Do you ice-fish in it?

Also, in response to the possibly overprotected indoor lacrosse goalies: They need all that protection to keep the score (and consequently the game time) under control. It’s not uncommon for an NLL game to end with a final of 18-15 or so, even with all the pads. Also, the sticks in indoor lacrosse are allowed to be modified more than outdoor sticks are, which result in much faster and more accurate shots, with a ball heavier than a hockey puck, and from closer range than in field lacrosse.

They wouldn’t be receiving bruises without those pads, they’d be receiving fractures.

Ah, damn. That would have been really cool. Thanks for explaining your elusive Canadian humor to me. Does this mean you’re not Inuit? But you are bilingial. You’re not a Mountie, though. A car for work. What do you do, or shouldn’t I ask? Will you have to kill me if you tell me?

If you get me what I *really* want for Christmas, I will probably keel over dead before I had a chance to enjoy. I will be very grateful to you, however, if wishes do come true.

The pics, though, that’s the important thing. You should wear the jerseys when you take the pics.

In keeping with the Terry Glenn Buckeye award sticker sighting, I was watching the CMA Awards during breaks from the Monday night game and noticed that the bass player Jay DeMarcus, from the group Rascal Flatts was playing a Scarlet Bass guitar with Buckeyes near the neckjoint. He is from Columbus as is the lead singer. The picture is from the NFL Kickoff concert.

Not sure if this has been said before, as I dont watch many Raider games, but Andrew Walter’s entire jersey is mesh, including the upper part, while his teamates have the traditional mesh body, but fabric shoulders.

It’s nearly impossible to make out not on HD, but here are pics nonetheless

I’m Al. I’ve played indoor AND outdoor. I’m sorry, I realize it takes skill, because it’s in close and whatnot, but it’s a lot harder to be an outdoor goalie. A guy died from taking a shot in outdoor. Please don’t justify your eight tons of padding to me. It takes nowhere near the athleticism to play an indoor goalie as it does the outdoor game. That’s why in college lacrosse a great goaltender can spell championships.

Heck, I’ll go a step further. Every part of the outdoor game implies more athleticism. The field is huge. Every one of the 10 players has to be in top shape. Shots come at you from everywhere in a variety of speeds and screens. In box lacrosse, you have 5 attackmen and a fridge with a stick. Lax is hard no matter how it’s played, but it requires more skill and more endurance to play outdoor. Maybe it’s just my Maryland bias.
